Hello, my name is Pernell Hill, and welcome to, The Prayer Perspective, a biblical viewpoint on the principles and practices of prayer. Each perspective will have Prayer Take-Aways, these are steps you can use to maximize your prayer discipline.
One of the most disappointing things in life is loving and laboring for something or someone and nothing has produced from it; you’ve tried and tried but still no fruit. Abraham’s son Isaac, his wife Rebekah was barren, she could not have children. We can only imagine having to deal with this condition year after year. Obviously Isaac and Rebekah weren’t getting any younger, so when you look at it naturally it seems the conditions won’t change. But when you look at it supernaturally, this is when our faith in God kicks in.
Genesis 25:21 says Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren, and the Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived. The interesting and ironic thing about Isaac’s situation with his wife is that he to was birthed from a woman who at one time was also barren; his mother Sara was that woman, Abraham’s wife. Although she and Abraham were old, God blessed them any way. He (God) had a promise to keep.Even though Rebekah was barren, it was just a matter of when she would finally conceive as this would be crucial to the promise made by God for the children of Israel.
Barren with twins is an oxymoron, for how can one have twins if she is barren. This is where prayer comes in. Prayer puts you in touch with the supernatural, what seem impossible naturally is not impossible with God. When you are expecting natural things to come from barrenness, you have to expect unnaturally. In other words, praying suggests I have to think differently, I have to believe differently. This sounds easy, but when you are barren especially for a while, this can cause doubt and fear.
But Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife Rebekah; a husband interceding for his wife. What better way is there than a husband praying for his wife? Marriages are strengthen when spouses are praying for each other. Isaac has given men a good example. Its been my experience that more women are leading in prayer. I would like to encourage you married men to take cues from Isaac. He prayed to the Lord, the same Lord that blessed his mother, is the same Lord he is praying to bless his wife. The Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived. The one thing about being barren is that there is room for hope, and once hope is manifested what was once barren can result in a double portion. Her conception resulted in twins. If there are areas in your life where you are barren, pray based on that condition especially if it directly defines your purpose.
Prayer Take Aways
Your condition doesn’t mean it’s your conclusion
Isaac (Husband) prayed for his wife. (He took the lead in prayer)
It’s important for marriages to have prayer as a part of their relationship
What the Lord has done for one, He can do for another. (Isaac was birthed from Sara, who was also barren)
When you pray based on a condition, consider the promises of God, and how that affects what you have been called to do.
When you are expecting natural things to come from barrenness, you have to expect unnaturally. In other words pray according to the supernatural oppose to the natural.
When your pray to the Lord based on your barren condition, you could end being bless beyond what you asked for.
